December 29, 1962 -- President Kennedy addresses the honored contingent of the Bay Of Pigs prisoners who five days earlier had been recovered from Castro's prisons in exchange for over $60 million in cash and medical supplies to the Cuban government. JFK declares, somewhat carried away by the emotions of the moment, that the Cuban brigade's flag just now presented to the President, "will be returned to this Brigade in a free Havana."
