Washington Raising the British Flag at Fort Du Quesne

Overall size : 10 x 7 inches.
Description: Engraving. George Washington (1732-1799) at Fort
Duquesne, Pennsylvania, during the French and Indian War. Washington, center, mounted on light colored horse, doffs his
hat as the Red Ensign of Great Britain is raised above the remains of
Fort Duquesne. Two other mounted officers to his right, further right is
a mass of infantry, behind whom is a brick chimney and a tree. to left
of Washington are eight additional soldiers. Three are on the rampart of
the fort, two holding the flagpole while the third stakes it into the
ground with a sledge hammer. Four more are down on the ground level,
watching, while the last one is bent over apparently burning something
which is spooking Washington's horse. Hills are visible beyond the
ramparts, and the sky is partly cloudy.
