1836 Celestial Map or Chart of October November & December

Publisher : Hartford: F. J. Huntington, in Geography of the Heavens by Elijah Burritt.  16 x 14 inches.
-- features the stars and constellations visible
in the night sky during the months of October, November and December.
These include beautifully detailed depictions of the Zodiacal figures
the stars represent. This particular chart features Pegasus (the Flying
Horse), Andromeda, Cetus (the Whale), Aquarius (the Water Bearer) Aries
(the Ram) and several others.Equinoctial and Solistitial Colure lines
divide the chart into quarters. This map, like other maps by Burritt are
based on the celestial cartography of Pardies and Doppelmayr. The chart
is "engraved by W. G. Evans under the direction of E. H. Burritt".The
work of Elijah Burritt, though active only from approximately 1833 to
1856, is still in use today. His atlas, "Geography of the Heavens", from
which is chart is from, is considered the last decorative Celestial
atlas of the 19th century. Later editions of his atlas did not include
individually colored constellations. Famous American author of fantasy
and horror H.P. Lovecraft considered the Burritt atlas one of his
favorite books, perhaps inspiring some of his works.
